Spending a week in the NICU was hard on all of us. It was emotionally difficult being separated from him so soon after birth. Plus watching him endure all the blood draws, IVs, and tests was hard as parents to watch. We're thankful they were able to help him, but are so happy to be home.

The Birth
Carson arrived on November 21st, 2008, in style. Meaning with lots of pain and pushing! Everything started out great and the labor progressed well and in a good amount of time for a 1st time baby, but then I had a really hard time getting him out. We later found out it was because he was too big for my pelvis. He ended up with shoulder dystocia and the midwife had to physically free him from my pubic bone. To everybody's terror he then came out not breathing and had to be resuscitated. He had inhaled amniotic fluid. It was the scariest moment of our life and we still tear up when we think about him laying lifeless on our bed just praying that God would help him breath. Thankfully he finally took a breath, but not too well. It took him quite a while to actually start breathing and it was labored. I then hemorrghaged and my sister continuied to give Carson oxygen as the midwife dealt with my bleeding. After the birth the midwife kept telling us he was fine, but we were not convinced. Carson's breathing still didn't sound right and he kept having bubbles come out his mouth. We finally decided it was time to take him to the hospital. The midwife gave us attitude about it, but it was definetly the right decision. We got him there and they immediately put him on oxygen and he started improving. They took x-rays to check the fluid in his lungs and he had a ton of it plus his lungs were swollen. The next morning he finally spewed all of that fluid out. It was a hard week in NICU. They were constantly poking and proding him and the poor guy was so stressed. It was hard emotionally for both of us but we are now home and loving it. He's completely relaxed and is such a good baby. He eats a ton, but that makes his mamma happy.
